Eastern Province Athletics Congress (EPAC) formed with the unification process from the National Sports Congress aligned then to the African National Congress and EP Athletics Union (EPAU) in 1992 under the Chairmanship of CLIFF HOPKINS, HENRY CLOETE and CLIVE APPOLLIS. The SACOS affiliated EPAAA opted not to join the unification process until principled unification was effected within the broader society.
EPA today hosts 41 clubs with some of the oldest being Port Elizabeth Amateur Athletics Club established in 1880,Rhodes University Athletics established in 1909 and the formation of Willard Athletics Club (from the no-racial clubs Atlantic Aces, Golden Eagles, Spartans, Athenians &Olympia Athletics). From the latter the likes of George Ntshiliza, Wayne Gallant and Desmond Zibi emerged and still producing good results in road races today.
