I am writing you with some very good news. Last year, you might recall, I had to have emergency cataract surgery and soon after had an appointment with you. At that time I mentioned that I had a problem with calcium deposits and had had it most of my life, since I was about 17. You said that it was possible the cataracts were caused by calcium and it made sense because at the time the cataracts developed I also developed a calcium deposit near my eyes, and had problems with the growth of the calcium deposits located on my elbows. It seemed sensible that they might be related. You suggested I change the calcium I was taking and prescribed a different type. It seemed rather expensive but I figured it was worth a try.
A short time later I went to see my medical doctor and at that time had him check one of the calcium deposits on my right arm. It had been getting larger and it is important that I have them removed before they get into the joint. He looked it over carefully and together we decided the surgery could be held off for another year. The deposit was about inch in diameter.
Just a couple of weeks ago I noted that one of the deposits seemed to be sort of breaking through the skin, then later I noted that it was almost as if bits of calcium were extruding from the skin and breaking off. Last week I started taking a closer look. The calcium deposit that had formed on my left temple near my eye was completely gone. Nada! Not even a scar. The deposit on my right elbow that I had considered having surgically removed this summer is reduced down to a barely palpable inch. The one on my left elbow where the calcium seems to be leaving is very small, less than a quarter inch.
I consider this nothing less than a miracle. The condition is called calcinosis universalis. Often those with it completely stiffen up as the calcium deposits on their connective tissue does its damage. I am writing you to let you know this has occurred and to let you know that if you would like you are very welcome to drop my name to other patients with similar conditions, and I would be happy to write a note for your web site.
