If you are reading this, it's mostly likely because you are interested in making some sweet unassuming and subtle beer, or you want to make ginger beer that will kick you hard in the back of your throat.
You know ginger beer if you have ever tasted it. The moment that you take a sip, the beer stomps on your tongue with steel boots, reminding you how spicy raw ginger is.
In this article i am going to show you on how to make my version of beer; the hardoce type but with a little bonus of alcohol. The UK especially England have been drinking alcoholic ginger beer for hundreds of years, but in America people have just began to discover this gem.
In addition to the spicy and addictive taste of ginger beer , alcoholic ginger beer is actually very fun to make. If you have a dream of being a fully fledged brewmaster but lack the equipment, time, and a beard, then ginger beer is the best starting point. By use of only a jar, a few clean soda bottles and some pantry staples, you can make yourself an awesomely delicious brew in just about three weeks. You may take some experimenting to get the method right, but the experimentation journey is just half the fun.
I have prepared this recipe just like a set of guidelines so you must follow your instincts.
Stir yeast into the water until dissolved, then add in a tablespoon of freshly grated ginger, a tablespoon of sugar, and the sliced lemon. Stir the mixture combine. (You can add a sliced jalapeno. It will give your ginger beer that kick you can feel in the back of your throat )
Pour the mixture you have prepared into a glass jar that is large enough for the liquid to fit in. Cover the jar with a clean, towel and secure the towel with a rubber band. Then place the jar in the warmest part of your house
After one week take the towel off your jar and then add another tablespoon of sugar and a tablespoon of grated ginger. Stir till the sugar dissolves, and replace the towel. Do this every day
Don't stress too much about flavours -- you can add your flavors later.
Its now time to bottle the beer. Think prior to making of how many bottles of the beer you'll want. Use plastic bottles. Glass bottles could explode due to carbonation.
Fill these bottles to a level of two-thirds full. Dissolve enough sugar into the water till the water tastes very sweet. Do not be scared of overdoing it; sugar is used to act as food for the yeast. Most of the sugar will get eaten up and turned into alcohol.
Make use of a funnel to add the sweetened water to the bottles till they are two thirds of the way full. Add a cup of the raw liquid to each clean bottle. You can add more if you want your beer to be stronger and vice versa.
After a few days, the bottles become difficult to compress, now slowly start to unscrew the bottle cap just until you hear a hissing, but do not open the cap all the way.
In about a week to two, the yeast used should have eaten up almost all of the sugar in the bottle. This means that your ginger beer is ready to open and taste!
